About · Joshua Woerner
Joshua Woerner is a Los Angeles–based Creative Hair & Makeup Designer and Hair & Makeup Artist (HMUA) specializing in performing arts, theatre, and visual character design. His work combines concept-driven design with precise technical execution, focusing on the transformation of characters through hair, makeup, and visual detail.
Born and raised in Northern Germany, near Hamburg, Joshua developed an early sensitivity for style, form, and aesthetics. As a teenager, he immersed himself in costume and character design, beginning with cosplay and later expanding into performance-based work, including drag art, as well as hair, wig, and makeup design. He built his technical foundation within the German salon and vocational training system, completing a rigorous three-year professional program in hairstyling and color — the craftsmanship base that still shapes his work today.
After relocating to the United States, Joshua earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theatre Production & Design, deepening his expertise in character development and visual storytelling. During theatre and live performance productions, he contributed to the conceptual development of hair, makeup, and wig designs while supporting fellow students backstage with technical skill, hands-on guidance, and creative problem-solving.
In his final semester, Joshua was officially credited for hair and makeup design in the theatre production Godspell 2025, overseeing the full creative development and execution of the production’s visual look. Today, he works primarily in theatre and live performance settings, bridging creative vision and technical execution. Licensed as a Cosmetologist in the United States, Joshua approaches hair and makeup not as surface aesthetics, but as dramaturgical tools that support character, emotion, and narrative presence on stage.
